JW Marriott Poised for Significant Mid-Project Milestone

The 34-story, 1,005-room JW Marriott Indianapolis hotel will be topped off the second week of November this year, several weeks ahead of the original construction timeline. The JW will be the anchor for the five hotel, 2,248-room Marriott Place Indianapolis complex. The JW Marriott will open in February 2011. Showrooms for the hotels will be available soon.

Select Service Hotels Set to Open Ahead of Schedule

Marriott Place Indianapolis has already significantly changed the Indianapolis skyline. The Indianapolis Courtyard by Marriott Downtown and Indianapolis SpringHill Suites by Marriott Downtown hotels, totaling 621 rooms, were topped off in June and will open in February of 2010 in time for the NCAA Men's Final Four Basketball Championship.
Landmark Art Plaza Unveiled at Marriott Place

Marriott Place Indianapolis recently unveiled the design for an art-filled central plaza expected to become a landmark and lasting gift to the city.

The multi-million dollar plaza was designed by Indianapolis landscape architects Claire Bennett Associates. The artworks in the plaza pay tribute to Indiana and were designed by Jeff Laramore of 2nd Globe Studios, which has studios in Indianapolis and Vancouver, British Columbia. The signature piece in the plaza is a nearly 36-foot-tall stylized sculpture of a cardinal, representing the state bird. When viewed from above - as from the windows of the adjacent JW Marriott Indianapolis - the cardinal appears to be perched on a tulip tree branch formed by the stonework in the plaza. The tulip tree is Indiana's state tree.

Another key feature of the plaza is a 60-foot-long waterwall, featuring a multitude of peonies - Indiana's state flower - depicted in stone behind a cascade of water. The waterwall was also designed by Laramore.
